Radhastami, the appearance day of Srimati Radharani, was celebrated with great fanfare at
Iskcon, Kolkata on 23rd Sep, 2012. Devotees in large numbers started assembling in the temple
since morning on this auspicious occasion. The program began with Mangala Arati at 4:30 a.m.
Radhastami is the only day in the entire year when the devotees get an opportunity to take
darshan of the beautiful lotus feet of Srimati Radharani. The most awaited moment unfolded at
8:30 a.m. & everyone reverentially took darshan of the lotus feet of Srimati Radharani.
On this auspicious occasion the entire temple was very beautifully decorated. Dressed in new
garment, decorated with colorful flowers, ornaments and lotus petals, Srimati Radharani
enchanted everyone. Her lotus like face was shining brilliantly.
Amal Puran Das, a senior devotee of Iskcon Kolkata, gave Srimad – Bhagavatam class. He
explained that Krishna has 80,000 gopis, among them 108 gopis are best. Among 108 gopis, 8
gopis are best. Among 8 gopis, 2 gopis – Radharani and Chandravali - are the best. Among the 2
gopis, Radharani is the topmost. Srimati Radharani is very dear to Krishna. So, we get mercy of
Krishna only by the mercy of Srimati Radharani.
Grand Abhisheka and Maha – arti was held from 11:30 a.m. onwards. Bhajans and Hare Krishna
kirtan which accompanied the ceremony surcharged the entire atmosphere. Finally everyone
enjoyed delicious Krishna Prasad.
